Have you ever been in a hostile workplace situation? Or just a really frustrating one? Enough to make you open the emergency chute?

Rebekah Child

Rebekah Child

My name is Rebekah Child. I attended the University of Southern California for my bachelor's in nursing and decided to brave the academic waters and return for my master's in nursing education, graduating in 2003 from Mount St. Mary's. I have also taught nursing clinical and theory at numerous Southern California nursing schools and have been an emergency nurse since 2002. I am currently one of the clinical educators for an emergency department in Southern California and a student (again!) in the doctoral program at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Student nurses are frazzled and panicking right now. You’ve been there. Got any advice for us?

Ani Burr

Ani Burr

My name is Ani Burr. I'm 23 years old and have survived my first year and a half of nursing school at CSU Los Angeles. I started college as a creative writing major, and then moved on to major in graphic design when a job at a dialysis unit changed everything for me. After seeing what it really meant to be a nurse, I changed my major one final time. It has been a crazy journey, but I'm loving every minute of it, and hoping to go into pediatric nursing after graduation in 2011. In between studying and projects, you can find me working with my church's outreach programs, spending time with my family and my fabulous fiancée, and enjoying life!

Male nurses are almost not existent in the clinics. Other than the MDs, I am the only guy on the floor.

Rob Cameron

I am currently a nurse manager for a 30 bed Surgical Trauma and Telemetry unit at a Level I trauma center in Denver, Colorado. Prior to this, I was a staff nurse in the Emergency Department. I have work in Med/Surg, Critical Care, Hospice, Rehab and pretty much anywhere I am needed. Prior to my career in nursing I worked in healthcare finance and management. I feel this give me a perspective on nursing that managers never see. Away from work I spend all my time with my wife and daughter. I enjoy running and swimming, and am a die-hard NASCAR fan. So, Sundays you can find me watching the race with my daughter.

Is nursing considered a career or a trade? I am not just a skilled craftsman, I am an educated professional.

Sean Dent

Sean Dent

Hi. My name is Sean. I've been in healthcare for the past 15 years. I received a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science where I worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). My diploma in nursing is my second career. I've had the pleasure of working in a variety of environments including telemetry, orthopedics, surgical services, oncology and time as a travel nurse. I'm also a CCRN certified critical care nurse where I've worked in cardiac, surgical as well as trauma intensive care nursing. I'm currently attending school finishing my BSN. I like to blog about any and everything under the sun, so stop by if you feel like listening to some arbitrary rhetoric mashed up with some interesting findings regarding world news, fitness, healthcare and everything nursing.

I love hearing about how the nurse practitioner is the “next best thing” in the medical profession. Is it?

Nicole Lehr

Nicole Lehr

Hi! My name is Nicole, and yes, I’m a new nurse. I can be described in three adjectives: content, thankful, and fortunate. All credit for the aforementioned description can be given to the love I have for my profession — Registered Nurse. Upon graduating from University of Florida with my Bachelor’s in Nursing and moving to Atlanta, the real “south,” I quickly realized I was in enemy — a.k.a. ‘Bulldog’ — territory. I also just as quickly discovered the gem that is the Cardiac Stepdown Unit at Children’s — a dream job for a new nurse. Usually you can find my yellow lab, Maggie, and I gallivanting around Atlanta to the theme of “Chronicles of a Three Day Work Week.”
