This is so pleasing to the eyes, let me tell you. I used to work for St Joes Hosp in PHX, AZ and they started a recycle your lunch program in the cafe. youd see bins in every direction to recycle. Sad thing is, I dont see folks using them, walk right passed and put it on the outgoing belt! that is not the only sad thing, the waste on the pt care level. i am now working as a CEC (educator) and i have to demonstrate a product using a BRANDNEW product, every time i do this. i throw away so much trash! all of it plastic. the oceans are overwhelmed with plastics! we eat fish, we eat plastic. i am volunteering/hosting an edu booth on plastic waste in 2 wks. (11/2010) i hope i can make a difference in pples mindsets

As a nurse w/3 small children, I can appreciate the need for stewardship of our environment...I'm also overwhelmed with how far we have to go...I appreciate you and your fellow students/instructors for leading the way. I applaud your employer for embracing your ideas. Kudos to you kiddo.
"This time, the one who’s sick is Mother Nature. Ecological sustainability will be achieved only through the collaboration of dedicated and compassionate caretakers who advocate for the health of our planet, working together for the highest possible outcome." I love it.

I love the statement, "Sustainability is a journey, not a project, and we’re off to a great start". It is one thing to talk about achieving goals, but to embark on a journey of leadership and stewardship is another. Thank you for your service Erika.

Agreed! There's a number of organizations out there really championing this cause actually. One I've noticed is 'Green Hospital' http://hospital2020.org/About.html GH is 'Hospital & Med 2020' - an alliance that continues to advocate for greening of hospitals in the future... but, they're not the only one. I mean, it's so intuitive I can't believe the greening effort didn't start there - hospitals are, by definition, the place you go to get better (you hope ;))..it would make sense to have those places also be standards for environmental well-being as well

The healthcare industry definitely needs to step up and get on the ball in terms of doing its part in cleaning up the environment. It's so easy to fall into the mentality of 'oh, I'm only one person, what difference can I really make?' Obviously each person counts, each person can make a huge difference.
