Katie Duke’s Pocket Confessions

Nobody recognizes the value of a good pocket more than a nurse. And with a “the more secret compartments, the better” mentality, it’s easy for nurses to fall into the habit of hoarding certain items (although we prefer to refer to them as “nur-cessities”).

In this week’s episode of “The Katie Duke Show” on ScrubsBeat, Katie offers a sneak peek into her pockets—on and off the job. Find out which “must-have” items you aren’t likely to find her without, and be sure to share your own pocket confessions with us in the comments section below!

Don’t be shy…vending machines were pretty much made for stockpiling purposes.

When at the hospital, especially one where obtaining supplies is a competition, the following are some of the things you would find in my scrubs pockets:
    1. Plaster (you can never have enough)
    2. Scissors (bring your own and make sure to label them as yours)
    3. IV cannulas/ cannulae (I don’t know the proper plural form, but what the heck!)
    4. Syringes (in case of emergencies)
and last but not the least….

    5. Lots and I mean, LOTS!!, of pens (coz’ most of them will end up in the hands of a colleague or a doctor who would claim it as theirs)
