When nurse Dawn Bausone-Gazda met Gerald “Jack” Boekeloo recently, she thanked him for reminding her of why she became a nurse.

According to CBS News, last November Boekeloo was having a heart attack and attempted to drive himself to the hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. He realized he couldn’t make it and pulled into a White Castle parking lot where he attracted the attention of the restaurant’s patrons.

Bausone-Gazda was driving by the restaurant during her lunch break and pulled over to help when she saw the commotion. She soon realized Boekeloo was having a heart attack and began to perform the CPR that saved his life.

The two met for the first time in a hospital room at Advocate Christ Medical Center earlier last week where Boekeloo got to thank the nurse whom he called “a hero.”
