Scrubs fashion tips for the curvy nurse

APPLE SHAPE

Look for…
For you curvy women who carry more weight around your waist, accessorize your neckline or choose tops with small patterns or embroidery above the bust line. Tunic-style scrubs are flattering yet spacious. V-neck tops can elongate the torso. Choose jackets that fall mid-hip. A good fit in the shoulders will accentuate them and draw attention away from your waist.

For scrub pants, try mid-to high-waist styles. They will flatten and create a smooth line. Also, go for the size that fits comfortably around the waist to avoid creating the illusion of extra bulk. A flared leg can add shape to your legs and balance out the middle.

Avoid…
Be sure to avoid low-rise pants, drawstring ties and large pockets or pleating. Although comfortable, they add bulk. Ultra skinny-leg styles can also have the effect of over-accentuating the middle.

Shapes that minimize larger thighs…

I am not sure how I feel about the photo that is with this article. It’s a baby phat model image that has been stretched to make her look more “curvy”.

You know, you’re right. And we removed it. We had a really tough time finding a portrayal of a “curvy nurse!” We replaced the image and hope you agree that it works better for the article. All best, The Scrubs Editors

Working on OB our scrubs are picked for us, and our new ones are pretty much the oppposite of what this article says I should be wearing! I know I chose my speciality-but I hate being told what to wear.

There’s nothing I hate more than a thong or colored panties underneath white scrub pants. It kills me! But on another note I recently lost some weight and had to make darts in the back of my tops. They have a much better line & fit now.

I have problems with the large bust thing. I bought scrubs that were a size larger in the top cause they were the only ones that would fit over my bust, now I feel like I’m wearing a tent. It’s baggy everywhere else, and I even had a patient ask if I was pregnant and another tell me I was fat cause it’s so big. I have to wear one color and I have not been able to find many stylish choices in that color.

I think it’s wrong that just because I’m your nurse for today does not mean you have the right to call me fat.

The tip that worked best for me was when we brought in weight watchers to our facility. Lost 20 pounds and my scrubs look great
