Video: Nurse reunited with the preemie she helped save…28 years later

When Amanda was born three months early in 1985, her chances of survival were a paltry 15 percent (compared to an 85 percent survival rate today).

Now, 28 years later, Amanda is reuniting with a real fairy-godmother nurse whose round-the-clock care offered her a winning shot at life. Check out this touching moment, and tell us about one of your own memorable patients in the comments section below!

I can go you one better. My goddaughter was born on Dec 3, 1976, at a documented 24 weeks gestation, weighing 2#, including the placenta. She was not expected to live. At 2 days old, she underwent surgery to repair a Patent Ductus of the heart. Today, she is the 38 year old mother of 2 children. She has no physical or mental deficiencies. Because there were no baby clothes small enough and doll clothes didn’t accommodate a diaper, I made her clothing, so that she didn’t have to wear gowns all the time.
