In the Summer 2013 print issue of Scrubs, Theresa Brown, RN, writes, “I’ve learned the hard way that the bonds of friendship and family cannot make the details of a dirty job [nursing] tolerable to the average person.” It’s a sad truth of nursing–most of the time, your on-the-job details are too gory, sad or scary to share with your friends and family.

Fortunately, when you have a crazy story about needles, IV insertions or a really messy day on the job, you don’t have to bite your tongue and suffer from social isolation. Instead, you can reach out to your fellow nurses for support. If you were to call for support from a fellow nurse, what would you say?
