Us Nurses are well known for our temperament. We know our sh*t and we won’t let anything slide. Try to throw us under the bus, or even spell HIPAA wrong and we’ll destroy you. 50% of us are supportive and see the glass half full while the other 50% continue to play the b*tch card.

If you find yourself guilty of any of the below perhaps you need a taste of some good ol’ Nurse humor. Read on to see if you fit the bill!

  1. Haters Gon’ Hate.
You know what you do and you know who you are. You will most likely cling to your Nurse pack, you won’t stray from them because you feel safe in your little circle, sniding at the newbie or the Nurse who shows empathy or enthusiasm. You most definitely definitely eat your young.

This is horrible! This is true. The nursing “society” includes all the things you wrote. One can be lucky enough to not encounter all of them on the unit but at least one usually pops up and damages the spirit of cooperation among staff. However our WHOLE “society” allows this type of behavior so it’s usually learned before entering the nursing profession.

Sadly, much of this is true. As a former OR Nurse educator I was appalled by the way nurses treat their own. We had nurses tell clinical interns “I’ll learn your name if you’re still here in a year”. Another nurse sabotaged a colleague and her intern, putting the patient in jeopardy, because she was assigned to a room she didn’t want to be in. The funniest was an LPN who wore her scrub top backwards as a warning not to approach her because she was in a foul mood, and it was only funny if you weren’t assigned to the same room.
