How to deal with overbearing doctors

2. Ask the overbearing doc what you’re doing wrong

If a physician you work with is always on your case and it doesn’t seem like he or she is going to stop harassing you anytime soon, you can always ask what you’re doing wrong. Your attention to the doctor’s displeasure can disarm him or her, and might possibly make the offending physician think twice before treating you poorly.

You can phrase it like, “I’m sorry, doctor, I feel like there’s something I’m doing that bothers you. Is there anything I can do to help you that I’m not already doing?” It’s even possible that the doctor who’s being a jerk has no idea how their attitude is being received by their coworkers — not probable, mind you, but asking what’s wrong could be worth a shot.
