The “beautiful tapestry” of your nursing career

“When I think about all the patients and their loved ones that I have worked with over the years, I know most of them don’t remember me nor I them. But I do know that I gave a little piece of myself to each of them and they to me and those threads make up the beautiful tapestry in my mind that is my career in nursing.”
— Donna Wilk Cardillo, A Daybook for Beginning Nurses

Donna Wilk Cardillo, RN, has written several excellent nursing books and travels the world speaking with and encouraging nurses to reach their full potential. We love what she wrote about nursing and know you can relate!

Many of you may already be familiar with Cardillo’s work, even if you haven’t read one of her books. She is the author of the “Dear Donna” column at Nursing Spectrum and NurseWeek magazines, plus she doles out daily online career advice at She is also an “Expert” blogger at and even wrote a piece for Scrubs!

Feeling moved by Cardillo’s words of wisdom? If you’re in the Tuscon, AZ area or want to take a mini getaway, Cardillo is hosting an event just for nurses at the Miraval Resort & Spa (Oprah’s favorite!) from March 21-24. The conference is designed to “empower, energize, and enlighten [nurses] for future success”–sounds pretty perfect to us! You can learn more about the event here. (Psst! If you mention that you read about the event on Scrubs when you register by phone or email, you’ll get a special discount on the conference price!)

We recommend checking out Cardillo’s work not only for the thoughtful words like we posted above, but also because she – like so many nurses – has an awesome sense of humor. She’s also hoping to offer continuing education credits in the future, so be on the lookout for even more wisdom from this inspiring nurse.
