A Doctor And Two Nurses Were Stabbed At A Hospital Near Los Angeles On Wednesday, Suspect Was Arrested

A man stabbed three hospital staff members before barricading himself inside a room at the facility, authorities said. He was arrested after an hours-long standoff with the police.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at 3:50 p.m. regarding a possible stabbing at Encino Hospital Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the suspect in the shooting as 35-year-old Ashkan Amirsoleymani. He has been booked on three counts of attempted murder, and bail has been set at $3 million, the LAPD said on Saturday.

According to authorities, Amirsoleymani parked his car in the middle of a street and then went to the emergency room, where he asked for treatment for anxiety before stabbing the doctor and nurses.

All three victims were transported to a local trauma center in critical condition, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The three people injured in the shooting were later reported to be in stable condition at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center, according to the Associated Press.

Local TV footage of the hospital showed an injured employee in blue medical scrubs being wheeled out of the hospital on a stretcher. The front of the hospital was blocked with yellow caution tape and about a dozen emergency vehicles were present.

After SWAT team members failed to negotiate with Amirsoleymani for four hours, they finally arrested him, police said.

He was taken to another hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries to his arms, the authorities said.

Hamilton said the suspect had a long criminal record, including two arrests last year for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
