Dr. Munavvar Izhar: Medical Education – Our Story

Education, in general, is a more than $1 trillion industry in the United States. According to Dr. Munavvar Izhar, Medical Education alone runs in the billions of dollars. The numerous review products educating Medical students, Residents, Fellows, Physicians, and the money involved in (CME) continuous medical education, Certification and Recertification Examinations of the American Board of internal medicine (ABIM), maintenance of certification (MOC) review products, Subspeciality Medicine Board Review and their CME products ALL is a multi-billion-dollar industry!!

Physicians such as Munavvar Izhar, MD leave this untapped potential aside from being happy and content seeing patients from 7 am to 6 pm, fielding calls from patients in the evening hours, taking weekend calls, basically working 24X7 almost 350 days a year! With all this work, a physician’s earning potential is only so much.

What started as an interest and hobby for the Chicago-based Nephrologist has turned into a multi-million-dollar impactful organization affecting the lives and careers of hundreds of thousands of physicians. It started with creating a Comprehensive and Practical Nephrology Board review product catering to Nephrologists in the USA for Certification and Recertification in the ABIM Nephrology board examinations. Soon this Board Review Product became attractive and popular with physicians not only from the USA but all over the world, with subscriptions coming in from Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Asia, and as far as Australia and NZ. Encouraged by this response and growth, Dr. Izhar and his team are creating products in Family Practice (FP) and Internal Medicine (IM) which will be launched soon.

Munavvar Izhar says that his organization also understands the need for the untapped potential for medical students’ education and placement of Foreign Medical graduates (FMGs) into quality clinical rotations with excellent preceptors in the United States. Preparing the FMGs with live USMLE Prep Courses and having excellent pass results has been a real accomplishment of our organization. Our USMLE courses and Clinical Rotations are sought after by medical students from all around the world! We have also created Clinical Pathways for FMGs who cannot do residencies in the US and must return to their home countries. Hence, ours’s the only organization covering the entire length and breadth of medical education.

Dr. Izhar emphasizes that the point of this story is to tell the physicians that there is an untapped potential that any physician can dive into and explore. We, as physicians, need to strategize better and use our time to be more productive in generating revenue. Contrary to the popular teaching and belief that patient care is a physician’s best option to generate revenue, there are more ways and effective ways in the medical field of teaching and practice to generate a lot more revenue than what we generate as physicians. He also says that Physicians need to think outside the box and explore such options.

We offer opportunities for other physicians to be our consultants and content drafters and to participate in business opportunities with us or to do joint ventures or projects with us.
